SFMOMA wanted to bring the vision of its multi-year expansion project into the digital world, enabling the public to follow the Museum’s transformation as it happened.

Business Need


With the Museum under construction for an extended period of time, SFMOMA identified a need to create a meaningful and engaging experience that educated visitors on the expansion and conveyed SFMOMA’s vision of connecting people with modern and contemporary art through the process.

Approach


Tigerspike created a cinematic online destination featuring immersive imagery, renderings, and video dedicated to the Museum’s evolution. Visitors can also explore future programs, exhibitions and the extraordinary new additions to the collection.

Outcome


SFMOMA has collected two awards, a 2015 Webby and a Gold Muse (American Alliance of Museums Media and Technology Professional Network) Award. Tigerspike has subsequently been selected to design and develop the new mobile app for the Museum, with a scheduled launch date of 2016.
