The former Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) is responsible for providing certification for the transport of food and plant products in Australia. (This department has been renamed as Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning).

Business Challenge

The DEPI was faced with challenges as a result of the length of time it took to process plant transport certificates in the field; it usually meant delayed payments and time spent chasing. The average payment cycle was 90 days; significantly impacting cash flow.


Through our Experience Definition process, we identified the main process roadblocks and pain points of DEPI staff and customers. Through this insight, we built a solution that allows on-site staff to create certificates instantly and take real-time credit card payments and feed invoices directly to an Oracle Finance system for instant processing.


DEPI Mobile Payments and Invoicing App has improved the accuracy of information and decreased average payment processing time tremendously. This has freed up staff time and improved the experience for people obtaining their certification.
